What are you?
Just three simple words, “What are you?”
Possibly not the three words you thought about hearing. Maybe something like: God is good, I love you, I like candy, finished my chores, brought a purse, I won lotto or when I pray. So, when I was asked “what are you’ several weeks ago, I just knew the answer was right on the tip of my tongue. I’m good with having answers flowing quickly or if needed have something thought of before speaking. Not a problem. I got this! Trust me.
I had nothing. I couldn’t come up with an answer to possibly one of the easiest questions ever presented to me. Nothing came out of this mouth that would have made any kind of sense. My thoughts were a garbled mess. I’m the one with plan A, B and C always in the back pocket, will have a solution to a problem or provide some kind of guidance through a situation. This was the one time I could not pull together a simple reply for those simple three words. What are you?
The more I thought about this question; it was clear to me that I did not an idea of my true self anymore and may have lost sight of myself. Bottom line, if you’re not sure exactly who or what you are, then what’s your purpose?
Waking up very day to your purpose gives you a sense of belonging to something more important than you. As well as an overall peace of mind. With that clear understanding of ‘what you are’ helps to solidify your path, if it’s aligned with God’s purpose for your life.
Jeremiah 29;11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Have you prayed about your path?
To be honest, transparent and true to this journey, I’ve been so busy trying to help others hold it together, that I kept myself on the back end. Always putting on my “facial best” every day. This became my normal and safety net. Even though we have no clue what normal really looks like, truth will always reign.
This is just the beginning of this journey as I seek God’s guidance.
